It was a cold winter day when I received a life-changing call.
A dog in desperate need of help had been found wandering the streets of a nearby town. He had been severely beaten by the locals. As if that wasn’t enough, he was also hit by a car, leaving him with a number of injuries.
As soon as I heard about his condition, I knew that I had to do everything I could to help him.
I immediately drove to the town where he had been seen. When I finally saw Harvey, my heart broke.
His body was covered in wounds and bruises, and he looked so weak and vulnerable. But I was determined to help him, no matter what it took.
Little did I know that this dog would not only steal my heart, but also teach me valuable lessons about resilience, love, and the healing power of compassion.
A Visit to a Vet
I took our new boy to the vet, and it was clear that he needed a lot of care and attention. He was in a lot of pain and was afraid of everything – sticks, brooms, loud noises, and sudden movements.
He was big but still, he was shaking with fear and pain.
I was determined to help him. I stayed with him at the vet’s office, holding his paw and whispering words of comfort to him.
The vet did the tests on various diseases. At least, he was lucky in this respect and was negative on all the tests. He was healthy. This facilitated his way of recovery.
His wounds were treated under anaesthesia. It was possible to stitch the cuts on his shoulders, along the body and his hind part, but wounds on his head could only be cleaned, disinfected and treated with special vet ointments.
Oral antibiotic therapy was included due to the infected wounds that even had to be surgically drained.
In spite of everything he had been through, he was a well-behaved boy at the vet’s.
Naming our New Member
The process of choosing a name for the newest addition to our rescue family turned into a heartwarming and impactful fundraising opportunity for his large expenses.
My friends created a lottery, where everyone who suggested a name for the new pup donated a small amount of money towards his vet bills, medicines, food, and boarding expenses.
The more names suggested, the more funds they raised towards his care.
The response was overwhelming, with suggestions pouring in from friends, family, and even strangers on social media.
As the list of names grew, so did the amount of money raised. We were amazed by the generosity of everyone involved, and it became clear that this little lottery was more than just a game.
As we tallied up the donations, we couldn’t help but feel grateful for the support we had received.
With every dollar raised, we knew that we were one step closer to providing the best possible care for our new furry friend.
In the end, a name was chosen, and the pup had a moniker that was both unique and meaningful.
HARVEY
But even more important than his name was the impact that this little lottery had on the community. It brought people together in a shared goal of supporting an animal in need, and it showed that even small contributions can make a big difference.
This heartwarming story is a reminder of the power of community and the impact that can be made when people come together for a common cause. It’s a testament to the love and compassion that exists in the world, and a shining example of how a simple idea can turn into something truly special.
Harvey’s Emotional Recovery
It took a long time, but little by little, Harvey started to heal.
He began to trust me and understand that he was safe now. He started to enjoy cuddles and belly rubs, and he would wag his tail whenever he saw me.
As Harvey’s physical wounds began to heal, I realized that his emotional wounds would take much longer. He had been through so much pain and suffering, and it was going to take time for him to fully recover.
Still, I was willing to do whatever it took to make sure that he got the love and care he needed.
Months went by, and Harvey slowly but surely transformed from a scared, injured dog into a happy, relaxed one.
He loved to play fetch and would run around the yard, chasing after his favorite toy.
He would greet me with a wagging tail and a big, goofy grin, and I knew that he was finally starting to feel like himself again.
3 Years Later
As I looked at Harvey’s legs, I noticed something was off. They didn’t look right to me, so I decided to take him to the vet for an examination.
As usual, my instincts were spot on, and the vet quickly confirmed my suspicions. Harvey was in serious pain from his hips down to his paws.
Unfortunately, the x-ray machine was out of order, so we couldn’t get a proper diagnosis of Harvey’s condition. The vet suspected that he may be suffering from hip dysplasia, a painful condition that affects many older dogs.
With Harvey’s estimated age of 8-9, it was clear that his body was showing signs of wear and tear from the injuries he had sustained before we found him.
Despite his pain, Harvey remained stoic and brave during his examination. It was clear that he had been through a lot, and his injuries were taking a toll on him.
It was heartbreaking to see him in such discomfort, but I knew that we needed to do everything we could to help him.
Adopt Harvey!
When I look back on my time with Harvey, I am filled with gratitude that I was able to help him. He taught me so much about resilience and the power of love, and I will always cherish the memories we shared.
Even though he had been through so much pain and suffering, he never lost his spirit, and his unwavering trust and affection made my heart soar.
Harvey may have been unlucky in the past, but I know that he is lucky now. Even though he still hasn’t got home, he will always be loved and cared for in his boarding home no matter what.
Please check the steps to adoption.
Currently, Harvey is in a good boarding home, but he needs much better care than we are able to provide with our other dogs.
He needs a forever home where he will receive the love, attention, and medical care that he deserves.
Our hope is that someone will come forward to give Harvey the home and life he deserves, where he can live out his golden years in comfort and happiness.
He loves his food and his boarding home mates.
However, by adopting a dog you save not one but two lives because this way you free up space for another dog to be rescued from the streets.
