More ideas to share with you especially if it is your dog’s first Christmas at home. It doesn’t matter if you bought or adopted your pet or if it is a puppy or an adult dog. What is important is to count them in, too.
That is so exciting for you but also for your dog. Many people think that pets do not care. They don’t know it is Christmas, but they can feel our excitement and sense that something is different from ordinary days.
Starting from all the members being at home, doing some chores, then the smell of the kitchen and oh dear! a tree in the middle of the house with some burning lights and squeaky music! They know it is a special day.
Moreover, we will make it more special by pampering them with treats and cookies. Isn’t that amazing when they are involved, too?
Dog Christmas Gift Ideas
I have already given some ideas in my previous blog. You might find them useful if you are economical, just as I am. But I also love spending my money on Christmas gifts in order to treat and spoil them a lot during the most wonderful holiday season.
I am very weak in this regard because there are a lot of abandoned animals in the streets of Serbia. So on Christmas Eve, my family and I go out and leave bowls with food and treats around our neighbourhood.
So I guess you can already guess my list. However, read to find out if you were right.
Holiday Special Wet Dog Food
It’s time for something special. They have eaten quality food over the year and now it’s time for some extra quality, extra special Christmas meal. We make something special for us each Christmas, so why not for them too? I always vote for a fine homemade, organic, fresh-cooked meal, but sometimes it’s not really possible.
To tell you the truth, use the holiday opportunity to rest as much as you can. You’ve been working hard all year long for you and your family, human and furry as well. Let someone else cook for you and for them. Choose the best and observe them lick their mouths satisfactorily and happily!
These individually hand-packed portions of food focus mainly on real chicken protein as the first ingredient, followed by chicken broth without carbohydrates and grains.
This pawsome Christmas meal is worth my recommendation number 1.
Special Dry Food for Christmas
Everything is special about our favourite holiday, so the food must be too. A meal or two of mouth-watering wet food on the day of Christmas, but they deserve to be exquisitely treated all through the holiday season. So a month of special dry food would be convenient.
I choose the top quality food, something that I can’t afford regularly that will make them feel festive. They have to feel that it is a holiday.
From my experience, since I have a lot of dogs and expenses, I would go for Purina dry dog food. I can’t afford it regularly but once a year, at Christmas, the food must be delicious. Purina has proved well in this respect and I stick to it as a special holiday food.
Special Chew Dog Treats
What would a holiday look like without cake on top of everything else? If you could not imagine that, then don’t imagine a dog holiday without treats, especially chewable ones.
If your pets don’t have their favourite treats still, this one would be very suitable. The great taste of chicken and vegetables makes this treat very tasty. It is enriched with vitamins and minerals that are beneficial to our pets’ health.
They will love it and eagerly chew it while you can rest with a cup of coffee, a big holiday cake and a Christmas movie in your red, festive holiday pajamas.
Special Chew Toys
Great for indoor chewers, this toy is durable and unique. This festive gift will make our little chewers busy not thinking about other chewing possibilities. So, if you have such chewers at home, then you must have these toys to avoid possible troubles.
They are uniquely shaped and made of super strong nylon with flavors like bacon, fish and wood. It is definitely loved by dogs and worth the money.
In case your pet is a super heavy chewer, you may consider elk antlers as a Christmas present. Natural, long-lasting and temptingly tasty, elk antlers will keep them focused and interested.
On top, they provide our pets with a natural source of calcium, phosphorus and protein.
Removing plaque from their teeth, these treats take care of their dental and gum health. They also minimize bad breath.
A Special Dog Blanket and Pillow
To make this holiday idyllic, you need a soft dog blanket. Your pet will appreciate snuggling next to you while you are enjoying the holiday program on TV.
Choose among many of the designs and dimensions, something that goes with your room and furniture and that will fit in like your puppy fits into your family.
I have a lot of those – checkered, paw-printed, with hearts or plain but all soft to the touch. My animals love them. They snuggle up and enjoy every day in them. It is so relaxing to watch your animals relish their blankets so much.
The one I am recommending today has a pillow, too. I have noticed that my dogs love resting their heads on a higher level. Thus, a pillow is a perfect combination with a soft blanket.
Calming Supplement
Not really special but necessary if your pet is stressed about the noise of the firecrackers and fireworks expected during the holiday season.
Mine have always been scared when the season approaches. They feel the smell of the firecrackers in the air and they refuse to go out even to do their needs. No way!
Thus, we had to start with some treatment. A friend from the UK brought us a natural calming supplement and it served the purpose.
Of course, you have to be aware that it cannot do magic, it is not a sedative that will keep them totally calm while forceful firecrackers are exploding. It is a supplement that will keep their stress at a normal level or even less but don’t expect their state of agitation to be completely gone.
To Sum Up
In case you need more ideas, you may want to check this blog.
Christmas shopping is always exciting. Everything you buy at this time of year is special. So don’t worry, there won’t be any wrong presents especially when our pets are in question. They are always thankful for whatever they get because they appreciate their owners.
Choose your special present to make their Christmas special and most of all have time to cuddle them, play with them and walk with them. That’s the key source of their happiness – your attention!
For many of my rescues, this will be their first Christmas either at home or in foster.
Lady is one of the luckiest to have her forever home and wonderful owners that are trying to make her pampered and enjoy her first Christmas as much as possible. We hope the others will have an equally happy Christmas too.
Happy Pawlidays!
We hope Santa Paws brings you a lot of treats!
