The German Shepherd is a highly versatile and intelligent breed, renowned for its strength, loyalty, and trainability.
Originating in Germany in the late 19th century, German Shepherds were initially bred for herding and guarding sheep.
However, their exceptional qualities quickly made them popular in various roles, including police work, search and rescue, and as service dogs.
With their distinctive appearance and robust physique, German Shepherds are not only excellent working dogs but also beloved family pets.
They are known for their courage, confidence, and keen sense of smell, making them invaluable in tasks that require sharp instincts and quick responses.
This breed’s dedication to their human companions and ability to learn commands with ease have cemented their status as one of the most favored and respected dog breeds worldwide.
Meet Elsa: A Tale of Rescue, Recovery, and Resilience
Elsa, a majestic black shepherd dog, is a story of survival, resilience, and hope.
Born in August 2017, Elsa was found in September 2019, in a dire state, 250 kilometers away from her birthplace. Her journey from being an abandoned dog to a thriving, loving companion is nothing short of remarkable.
In this blog, we’ll delve into Elsa’s background, her rescue story, her recovery, and her readiness to find a forever home.
Elsa’s Background
Elsa was originally from the official German Shepherd Kennel in Belgrade. She had a promising start, but her life took a dramatic turn when she was sold to a family in Prokuplje.
Unfortunately, her new owners couldn’t keep up with the demands of a large dog.
Elsa, once a cute and playful puppy, grew into a big, active dog, and her needs became too much for her owners to handle.
Consequently, she was abandoned.
The Rescue Mission
In September 2019, Elsa was found wandering the streets of a small town. Being large and black, she was perceived as a threat by the local residents. They intended to poison her, seeing her as a danger.
Elsa was constantly on the run, unable to relax, with people screaming and chasing her away wherever she went. A friend of mine alerted me to her plight, and I knew I had to help.
The Journey to Recovery
When I first brought Elsa to the dog boarding home, she was severely emaciated and dehydrated. She couldn’t be spayed immediately due to her weak condition.
However, after thorough testing, we were relieved to find she was negative for all other diseases.
Over the next two months, Elsa received the care and nutrition she desperately needed. She gradually put on weight and regained her strength.
This kind of food helped a lot during her recovery!
Finally, she was healthy enough to be spayed.
A Second Chance at Life
Elsa’s story highlights a common issue with pet ownership. Many people are enamored with the idea of having a cute, playful puppy.
However, as the puppy grows and its needs increase, some owners find themselves unable to cope. They may abandon the dog, leaving it to fend for itself on the streets.
Elsa was one such case, but she was fortunate to have been found and given a second chance.
Elsa’s Personality and Characteristics
Despite her rough past, Elsa is a fantastic, socialized girl. She is reliable, responsive, and obedient. She loves being active and is great on a leash.
Elsa gets along well with people, kids, and other dogs. Her only obstacle to adoption is her size.
At 65 cm tall, 100 cm long, and weighing 50 kg, Elsa is a large dog. However, she is harmless and has a heart full of love to give.
Elsa is easily adaptable. She has learned and progressed so much in the dog boarding house. However, if you need help with training, you may want to check this blog.

These measures are just to make both sides satisfied. We don’t want anyone to suffer, neither a human nor a dog that went through a horrible past.
However, by adopting a dog you save not one but two lives because this way you free up space for another dog to be rescued from the streets.
