It is difficult to live in a country where there is no respect for animals. On each step, you see sad stories. From the ones that freely walk the streets, looking pretty well on the outside to the animals that suffer, injured, ill or old, some emaciated or terrified of human cruelty.
They are usually referred to as strays. However, they are not astray, they are abandoned, dumped by their loving human being.
No living soul on this earth is born because they wanted to be born. In adition, they didn’t want to be abandoned, have no security or lose their regular portion of food.
Sometimes, people are afraid or they get angry at them for getting in their way in the street. They do unusual things and one gets hurt. Either a human or a dog gets injured. In the end, the dog is always guilty and gets the short end of the stick.
Animals don’t have a voice therefore they don’t have any rights. They can’t complain when people throw them out or torture them. They are not allowed to defend themselves if someone attacks them.
So, animals need human advocates to fight for their rights! Luckily, many people realize this is not fair and they fight for animal rights.
Let’s try to make the world a better place! We won’t change the world, but we will definitely change the world for the animals we have saved.
Nena Was Born in Winter, on the Street
People from the village know that Nena was born at the end of February. Winters are pretty harsh here and 2018 was pretty snowy and extremely cold.
Nena and her sister were the only two puppies from that litter to survive all those cold days. People fed them in the street. However, they were pretty scared.
Summer came, critical months passed and you would say it’s easier now. No, the rescue stories don’t end just like that.
In July, people from the village called me to say that Nena was in a very bad condition, she had severe bloody diarrhoea. I know she caught a disease but wasn’t sure which one. So we took her to the vet.
Her stool was liquid, bloody and stinky. We could barely endure the 40-minute ride in the car with all windows open.
At the vet’s, Nena was diagnosed with a deep stadium of parvovirus, a deadly virus in dogs. She got her first therapy that day with very little chance of survival.
Nena is a Fighter
The six-month-old puppy, with long legs and ears that remind of our previous rescue Kimba, is a real fighter. And as I have suggested, people from the village really think that Kimba was her father.
Anyway, Nena didn’t give up. Neither did we. She had the will to live and we supported her.
During all this time, about three to four weeks of our fight, I dreaded seeing the foster man’s number on my phone. Well, it was good to hear about her progress, but with such a disease, you never know! I always thought about the worst possible scenario.
That day, when my phone rang, I was looking at it and thinking if it would bring me some bad news. I was afraid to answer it.
When I plucked up the courage and slid the button to the right, I heard a happy voice. I was relieved.
The foster man was telling me that Nena started eating, that she was hungry and wanted even more than a bowl of wet food.
That was it! Nena was making progress since that day and in a month she was vaccinated. After a couple of months, she was spayed, too.
Nena now
My rescues are rescued to live their lives as they deserve. I have to make sure they end up in the best possible hands, especially if they are offered a home far away from me.
I am not saying that a person has to be special. A person who adopts my dogs has to love animals and be understanding. Rescued dogs sometimes bear a burden all their lives. They might still be scared and hide.
Nena has grown into a beautiful female. She adapts well to any surroundings, but still, she is a little scared when not in a place she thinks of as a home. She has been living in foster for four and a half years and she doesn’t know it is her temporary home till adoption.
Also, Nena is a little afraid of unfamiliar people. In these cases, she wags her tail but moves backwards until she sees the man is not a threat.
Nena has no aggression at all. She loves people and adores kids. Nena lives with another male dog, Harvey and a cat. She gets on well with all dogs and cats, too.
How to Adopt my Rescues
The first thing you should do is introduce yourself to me through email or message on FB or Instagram. What I want to know about you is:
your name;
place of work;
where you live;
experience with animals and present pets;
and why you would like to adopt that dog.
Or simply, check out this blog 👉the process of adoption from Nevena’s Rescues.
This is not prying into your life, this is just the measure to value if the dog is a good fit into your lifestyle and household.
These measures are just to make both sides satisfied. We don’t want anyone to suffer, neither a human nor a dog that went through a horrible past.
The next step is a home check. A home check is done by a person from a nearby rescue. They check the conditions you have for the dog. They need to see where the dog would sleep, spend their time and have daily activities.
Also, they would be interested in the quality and height of the fence as dogs are masters of escaping.
If all goes well, the last step is signing the adoption contract. This step would be the final one before the dog’s arrival.
Conclusion
Nena’s video story is available at this link.
Nena was so small when she had to fight that mortal parvo disease. She came out as a survivor. She was so brave and determined to live.
For such a dog, one could wish only the best possible home. She had suffered enough, was rescued and I promised her that she will see the best possible life.
Nena is a plump lady now as she loves her food. She also loves long walks and playing with her friends. She truly deserves the best possible home.
If you are interested in the adoption of Nena or any other of my twenty dogs, please write.
Still, rescue is not free. Animals have to stay safe, fed and healthy till adoption. They mostly depend on donations or auctions that my friends put up for them.
Moreover, I try to earn for them through affiliate marketing. Whatever I earn from this site I use it for my animals.
Everyone can help in some way, so please choose yours.
By rescuing a soul, you won’t change the world,
but you will definitely change that animal’s world.
